Mark Dass
Mark is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia as a Psychologist. The clients he has worked with come from age groups across the lifespan, are culturally and linguistically diverse and present with a range of mental health presentations and mental health comorbidities. His professional experiences range from private practice, hospital, institutions and age care facilities in Australia and internationally.
Mark emphasises the value of the therapeutic alliance between the therapist and the client and provides evidence-based therapy as a course of his work. He also recognises the value of a multi-modal approach, which draws on the strengths of different evidence-based approaches to assist the client. In the midst of ensuring that a therapeutic alliance is established and ensuring that evidence-based approaches are used, he recognises that the client’s wishes, goals, aspirations and needs are first and foremost. He believes that the most effective treatment approaches are personalised.
The therapeutic modality he is uses is called Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. He also incorporates principles and techniques from Exposure Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Reminiscence Therapy, Non-directive Play Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Mindfulness, depending on the client.
Mark has been privileged to serve clients of all walks of life. This has led him to his exposure to all ages, ethic backgrounds, types of presentations ranging from addictions, mood and thought disorders, trauma, grief and loss, sexual abuse, schizophrenia, stress and phobias, amongst others mental health presentations.
He enjoys being part of the process of improving an individual’s mental health and observing the amelioration of their social, occupational and educational functioning. His therapeutic style is person-centred, trauma-informed, evidenced-based and takes into account biopsychosocial factors involved in the clients life. He strives to inculcate a warm, empathetic, safe and professional therapeutic space.
Mark is a native English speaker and is comfortable with clients who speak Malay.
